Ready or not 2: Here i come

RATED: R | 2026 ‧ Horror/comedy ‧ 1h 48m

Release date: March 20, 2026 | DIRECTORS: Tyler Gillett, Matt Bettinelli-Olpin

I’m a few weeks late to the party, but man, am I glad I caught this one on the big screen. I went in with a healthy dose of skepticism - sequels born purely from a surprise box office hit usually smell like a cash grab - but Ready or Not 2 managed to dodge that trap and actually raise the stakes.

If you loved the first film, you’re in for a treat. This installment doubles down on the “adult hide-and-seek" chaos but adds a layer of plot depth the original lacked. The balance is spot on: for every seven minutes of someone literally exploding into a pile of viscera, you get a genuinely funny comedic beat to catch your breath.

Samara Weaving remains an absolute force. She carries the film with such grit and charisma that it’s hard to look at anyone else when she’s on screen. Speaking of the cast, Elijah Wood is the MVP cherry on top. I love that he’s spent his post-Shire years picking the weirdest, most unexpected roles possible. His performance here is top-notch.

My only real gripe was Kathryn Newton. Playing the sister of the original final girl is a tall order, and unfortunately, her delivery felt pretty abysmal in key scenes. To be fair, it’s hard to shine when you’re standing in the massive shadow of Samara Weaving’s performance, but there were a few moments where the acting was questionable enough to pull me out of the movie.

Also, a moment of silence for Varun Saranga. Even as part of a murderous cult, his character was so hilariously reluctant that I was actually rooting for him to make it. Seeing him turn into a pile of goo at the end was a heartbreak wrapped in a bloodbath.

Final Verdict: Is it good or does it suck?

It’s rare to say a sequel is better than the original, but here we are. It caps the story off well, though I’d be lying if I said I wasn’t already wondering how they’d pull off a trilogy. If you haven’t seen the first one, go fix your life and watch it immediately. Then, catch this while it’s still in theaters - or keep an eye on your streaming apps in a few weeks. It’s a gore-soaked, hilarious good time.
